Wheelchair Basketball
Wheelchair basketball is a fast-paced, competitive sport. It helps to improve your upper body strength and core while teaching you teamwork, competition, recreation and sportsmanship. The season runs September through April, but it’s never too late to join.

Who it is for
Wheelchair basketball teams begin for children at six years old and continue through adulthood. Teams are available for both male and female players. Players must have a disability that affects their lower extremities which can include, but is not limited to, amputation, spinal cord injury, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and leg length discrepancy among other conditions.
You do not need to be an every day wheelchair user to play wheelchair sports. Please ask the program coordinator for more information.
What to expect
Courage Kenny hosts several wheelchair basketball teams:
- developmental
- prep
- junior varsity
- varsity
- adult
You will be placed on a team according to your age and skill level. Each team requires different travel commitments. The program coordinator will help you determine the right team for you. Please use the grid to learn the differences in our teams.

Good to know
The only equipment needed is a sports wheelchair. Athletes do not need to use a wheelchair for every day mobility in order to play. We offer an equipment loan program to provide specialized sports wheelchairs to so you can fully participate in a season.
Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute wheelchair basketball programs are nationally renowned for having developed college level, US national team and Paralympic athletes. Many of our athletes have been awarded college wheelchair basketball scholarships and our teams have won several National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) championships.
